Today we've had a great day in the wonderful town of Ypres. We visited The Menin Gate where we saw the names of 52,000 soldiers whose bodies were never found. We prayed for those who lost their lives and placed a cross on the Kings Liverpool Regiment memorial.
After a great experience visiting The Menin Gate we then visited The Flanders Field Museum. We found out lots of great facts and information about WW1.
We have answered some of your questions Year 6, now we have some questions for you:
1) Today we visited the Hooge Crater, can you tell us why this appeared in the German trenches?
2) Do you know how many commonwealth war graves there are in total? We couldn't believe how many there were in just one place!
We then left Ypres and travelled in and out of France and Belgium for three hours before arriving at La Petite Merveille in Durbuy where we quickly met up with new friends and had a welcome meal. Then it was off over the wobbly bridge for a long walk to the woods where we all went down the zip wire and had a great time, finally getting home just before dark.
We're struggling to get photos up at the moment but we have tweeted one which should be on the website now. We'll do a bigger update tomorrow. The children have been brilliant learning the language. Alles gud!
